A New Approach to Creative Music Expression

Scarpology began with a music tutorial book that offers a unique approach to music improvisation on mandolin and instruments tuned in perfect fifths. Scarpology offers a method for mapping out the entire fretboard (or fingerboard) of these instruments. Players learn to make use of their instrument’s full range as well as how to transpose on the fly and comfortably play in any key.

The book is available in both electronic and print formats. The print version is spiral bound, printed on 32 lb. paper with an accompanying CD of media files to use with exercises in the book. The electronic version or E-Book is available in two formats, Amazon’s Kindle (.mobi) and Barnes & Noble’s Nook (.epub). The EPUB format is also native to most reading devices (tablets or computers), although Kindle Reader is also available for a wide range of devices and proves to be our readers’ preference.

Ten Years Later, the Learning Goes Online

Scarpology.Com was revamped to offer online learning as well as the tutorial book. The goal is to fill in any gaps the book might have left out. As a perpetual work in progress, users can submit ideas for what they would like to have available. There will be more focus on the improvisation side of what the book touches on plus online coaching for areas students need help in. Online learning offers elements the print or electronic versions cannot offer and the author can engage with users, offering videos, webinars, and back and forth communication.
